Many clients who I see for coaching sessions, be that male or female, often want some advice on dating. Being single these days is a minefield. We have the longest working hours in Europe and many of us simply don’t have the time to meet someone new. Add to this the crippling in-securities that plague our society, faced with air brushed perfection every day from all angles and it’s no surprise we mainly spend our free time watching TV. Cue more focus on our inadequacies via the perfect media role models and the problem comes full circle.
Lap dancing has seen a steady rise in popularity, for the uninitiated, men (mainly) pay women to dance for them in various states of undress. The men can’t touch the women and after a few minutes the ‘dance’ is over. Traditionally this was an activity that was popular with stag parties, but statistically the ‘industry’ has seen a huge rise in the amount of solo clients. Men who are bored and increasingly lonely. With divorce on the rise, marriage being later in life than before and huge immigration in the UK, the competition just keeps getting tougher.

Having spent years with naturally curly hair, I decided that this summer, I would have straight hair. It was a choice driven by the fact that I am incredibly busy with work and having my hair straight is simply easier to manage. I’ve had my hair blown dried straight many times for special occasions, but in the UK, it’s just a bit frivolous, as it normally only lasts a few days. Any rain or humidity and my hair is ruined in a mass of dry frizz.
I continued to keep a sharp eye on the options available, regularly reading about the Yuko or X-tenso systems and recently noticed the rise of something called Brazilian keratin straightening also known as “escova progressiva”. It allegedly puts your hair in better condition than before and wears out over a period of three months. Even better you can use it with coloured hair. Bingo, this is what I needed, is actually good for my hair and no life time commitment like Yuko. I really do like having curly hair, so something like Yuko was never a consideration for me………

A large group of women dressed only in their underwear posed in front of a billboard at Charing Cross Road today. They were there to promote the launch of wonderbras new D to G cup range.
The advert is a mosaic made up of 8000 ‘real’ (as in not paid models), womens underwear shots. The individual photographs make up a large picture of new wonderbra model Katie Green.
The company are hoping to capitalise of the previous success of the “Hello Boys” poster campaign from ten years ago.

In a staggering demonstration of China’s vanity, the little girl who ’sang’, Lin Miako, was actually miming at the olympics opening ceremony.
The real singer, also seven years old, was Yang Peiyi. She was replaced at the last minute, olympic organisers refusing to let her go on stage, because she was deemed too chubby and her teeth were uneven.
Young women have enough issues with body image when they become teenagers, what would something like this do to a little girls confidence. Words fail me…..

The Government faced increased pressure today to change the licensing rules regarding lap dancing clubs.
In an open letter to the Times newspaper, women’s rights campaigners, plus a number of councils and councillors went to press. This was on the day that Government consultation on the issue came to a close, after licensing minister Gerry Sutcliffe wrote to councils across England and Wales in June, asking for their views.
Women’s rights group ‘Object’ today had their director, Dr Sasha Rakoff go on record stating: “Many local authorities have added their voice to growing calls for an end to licensing of lap dancing clubs as cafes. Current licensing has acted as a floodgate to the industry whilst making it difficult for local authorities and local people to have a say in this process. It has helped normalise lap dancing clubs and attitudes that encourage seeing women as sex objects, not people. The solution to this problem does not lie in tinkering with the Licensing Act 2003 or in planning controls. The solution lies in licensing lap dancing clubs for what they are: venues that provide visual entertainment for sexual stimulation – in other words, sex encounter establishments. We call on the Government to restore democracy to the licensing process and send out a powerful message that buying a lap dance is not the same as buying a cappuccino.”

London Fashion Week – Ban on size zero rejected
Written by chameleonfridays on August 13th, 2008
When the London development agency and the British Fashion Council, set up their independent model health inquiry last year, no one could have guessed the rejection their recommendations faced.
